The Coaches vs. Cancer BasketBall brings together business, healthcare, and philanthropic leaders for a night to make a difference in the fight against cancer and fund lifesaving research, patient services and programs right here in Philadelphia.
More than 18 million cancer survivors are alive today, thanks in part to the American Cancer Society. We are the only organization working to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
50% of the net proceeds of the event benefit the American Cancer Society AstraZeneca Hope Lodge to provide free lodging for those who travel to our great city for cancer treatment.
Since 1996, Coaches vs. Cancer of Philadelphia has raised over $21 million to help eradicate cancer by funding lifesaving research and improve the lives of those affected by this disease.
Hosted by Philadelphia’s NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches – Fran McCaffery (University of Pennsylvania), Darris Nichols (La Salle University), Adam Fisher (Temple University), Steve Donahue (Saint Joseph’s University), Kevin Willard (Villanova University), and Zach Spiker (Drexel University).

We are proud to announce that this year’s honorees, Sandy & Jeff Brown, will be recognized for their extraordinary commitment to community impact and cancer support. Together, they operate 14 ShopRite and The Fresh Grocer supermarkets, as well as the Di Bruno Bros. brand, and have long championed philanthropic efforts in the regions they serve. Sandy and Jeff’s dedication to the mission of the American Cancer Society began years ago when Sandy participated in the Bike-A-Thon from Cherry Hill to the shore. She later deepened her involvement by joining the board, where she helped build a partnership with ShopRite / Wakefern Food Corp. to supply snacks and drinks for every Bike-A-Thon water stop, an initiative that now generates more than $50,000 annually in donated products and support.
Sandy shares that she is truly honored to be recognized at the Coaches vs. Cancer BasketBall this April, and is proud to support the organization’s lifesaving work, especially after witnessing many friends and family members face cancer.
